Kathy Henryson

Kathy Henryson has been a member of the Gilbert Community since 1979. Kathy retired this past May after teaching in the Gilbert District for 20 years. She and her husband, Wayne, live in Squaw Valley. Wayne is a retired postal worker and presently coaches three sports in the Gilbert School District.

Kathy graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Special Education. Prior to her graduation from ISU Kathy worked with special needs students in Ames and also was a participant in grants through the University of Iowa which focused on helping special needs students be successful in the workplace.  After graduation, Kathy taught for one year at the Ankeny High School before beginning her career in Gilbert. While at Gilbert, Kathy initially worked with special needs students in the elementary grades. Upon the completion of the Middle School Kathy finished her career as a co-teacher in grades five through eight.

Kathy and Wayne have two adult daughters who had the opportunity to attend Gilbert Schools. Mackenzie and her husband Mark live in Cedar Rapids with their children Harper and Ezra. Mackenzie is a nurse practitioner in the emergency room at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, and Mark is a science teacher at METRO High School in Cedar Rapids. The Henryson's other daughter, Mollie, is a personal banker at US Bank. She and her son, Crayton, live in Ankeny.

Kathy is looking forward to substitute teaching and also enjoys walking, reading, and spending time with her family and grandchildren
