Carol Nelson

Carol was born and raised in Dubuque and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa.  After graduation, she worked as a medical underwriter and an office manager in the health insurance industry.  It was after she had children, she realized her true passion, kids.  She started her own in-home daycare and served on The Center for Childcare Resources Board.  Carol and her husband, John, have five children, raising them has been her most rewarding and challenging vocation.  The children range in age from recent high school graduate too soon to be a preschooler.

Carol volunteers as a mentor to young teens who are experiencing an unplanned pregnancy and is a church liaison to the Informed Choices Clinic in Ames.  Through her church, Carol and her husband teach faith formation classes to high school students.

Carol has volunteered for several fundraising and community building events including many at Gilbert Schools.  She has been involved in various capacities with the St. Cecilia Gala and the Gilbert Rock Hop.  This quote sums up how she strives to live out her life, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."
